Prior to Hyphn’s involvement, BOLI located and leased their intended space for relocation. Hyphn’s initial engagement with BOLI focused on furniture but quickly expanded to encompass other aspects of the workplace, including owner’s representation, technology integration and change management. Based on BOLI’s desire to implement a contemporary, active workspace, it became evident that successfully meeting their goals would require a holistic rethinking of the how and the why behind their processes and work environment. A compressed timeline made the review even more important as funding requirements provided a mere six months to design and furnish the new offices. The project team leveraged the State of Oregon’s purchasing contract with Steelcase to obtain significant discounting, while maintaining design intent and project goals.

Selecting Hyphn as their holistic workplace services integrator granted BOLI the ability to consider current and future staff needs, as well as support the unique components of their mission. For example, BOLI routinely holds legal proceedings in their space. Rather than commit a significant portion of the floor plan to a dedicated hearing room, Hyphn helped design a space that converts from a boardroom to a hearing room in minutes with flexible furniture options and a judge’s bench mounted on casters. The result is a multi-use environment ensures efficient use of space while satisfying BOLI’s unique needs.

Integrated Technology

Technology integration began with an assessment of current state and future needs, with a focus on supporting BOLI’s hybrid work model and improving constituent access. Acknowledging the diverse needs of different teams and the public they serve, Hyphn created spaces that can accommodate both small and large groups, ensuring that all members have the resources they need for effective collaboration. This strategic design encourages open communication, fosters creativity, and ensures that everyone, regardless of their role or location, has an opportunity to contribute effectively.

“The Hyphn team conducted interviews with employees and leadership to define success metrics, landing on the goals of enhancing productivity and improving collaboration. Through this process, Hyphn’s consulting team developed customized, research-backed strategies to facilitate a smooth transition and help employees embrace changes in their work experience.”

Moving a decades-long headquarters to a new location is a massive task under any circumstances, and our project was particularly complex with short timelines, state procurement rules, and very low internal capacity. Hyphn quickly stepped in with an integrated set of services, including project management; furniture solutions; AV solutions; and change management. They worked seamlessly with our staff at every level, identified and solved issues we didn't anticipate, and worked assiduously within our budget. The capacity they added to our ability to bring this project to a successful completion was invaluable and I cannot imagine how we could have done it without them!
