ideas Volume 7, Winter 2020

Allow us to wax nostalgic for a brief moment…

Every so often we’re moved to thumb through old images of grainy, black-and-white offices with big, mahogany desks adorned in brass and buried under stacks of paper. There’s something about the creaky-looking wooden chairs, behemoth filing cabinets, and dusty light filtering through thick windowpanes that make us wish—just for a day—we could sharpen our pencils and clock in for eight hours without screens. Then we apply a new lens.

Our industry has come so far. And when we apply what we know now about health and wellness in the workplace, inclusivity and equity in design, and even simple anatomy, we shudder to think about how those men in pinstripes and women in pencil skirts felt when they walked out of their building at the day’s end.

We feel so lucky to be doing the work that we do. We have the ability to work with real estate professionals to help bring clarity and vision to new space, the A&D community to push the limits of design so that they work for all types and abilities, and our clients so that their space is a tangible reflection of what and who they care about.

Thank you for being here, and thank you for helping us all work towards a unified vision that, simply, makes it better to be at work.

The Hyphn Crew
